Marriage License Requirements

Non-Georgia residents must obtain their marriage license in the county where the ceremony takes place. For Simply Weddings, that is Clayton County Probate Court.

Apply online first. Complete the Georgia online marriage application before visiting the court, and save your confirmation number.
Visit the court together. Both of you must appear in person at Clayton County Probate Court to finish the process. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and licenses cannot be issued on weekends. Finishing the application usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, so arrive well before 3:00 PM.
Plan around weekend ceremonies. If your ceremony is on a Saturday or Sunday, arrive in Atlanta in time to visit the court on a weekday before your wedding.
Bring valid government-issued photo ID for both of you.
Bring payment for the $66 license fee. The court accepts cash, debit, or credit only. No checks. Debit and credit card payments include a surcharge.
Bring your license to your ceremony. It must be in hand before we can begin.
